What is Childing?

Childing is the lifelong, proactive practice of being a good son or daughter. It is the missing curriculum of moral development.

Defining Childing

Childing is a verb. It is the lifelong, intentional practice of being a good son or daughter. While "parenting" focuses on the downward flow of care from adult to child, "childing" focuses on the upward and reciprocal flow of respect, gratitude, and care from child to parent.

Why We Need a Word for It

In English, we have a robust vocabulary for the act of raising a child (parenting, mothering, fathering). But we lack a single, active verb for the lifelong role of being an offspring. By coining the term "Childing," we aim to bring awareness to this vital, ongoing relationship.

The Practice

Childing is not about blind obedience or enabling toxic behavior. It is about emotional maturity. It requires navigating generational differences with grace, offering physical and emotional support as parents age, and ultimately, honoring their legacy by living a life of good character.
