Support Parents in Their Old Age (Vasala Sutta, Sn 124)
Buddhist Wisdom
— Vasala Sutta, Sutta Nipata 1.7 (Sn 124), translated by Bhikkhu Sujato (CC0), https://suttacentral.net/snp1.7/en/sujato
"Though able, he does not look after his mother and father when elderly, past their prime: know him as a lowlife."
In the Buddha's teaching, leaving your parents without care when they grow old is a mark of low character, whatever your status. Supporting them as their strength fades is how a noble person repays the ones who raised them.
Ask your parents this week what would make daily life easier for them, and take care of one thing on that list.
